KARUKKU

                                 KARUKKU

                                                                 - Bama

                                                                      (Translated by Lakshmi Holmstrom)

Faustina Soosairaj (bama is her pen name) as a Tamil Dalit feminist wrote her autobiographical novel Karukku. The argument of the novel is to do with the arc of the author's spiritual development both through the nurturing of her belief as a Catholic, and her gradual realization of herself as a Dalit. She mentioned experiences of her childhood and high school days.In her high school hostel, the warden-sister commented on low-caste or poor children, "Look at the Cheri Children!"

Incident elucidating untouchablity:

Dalit colony in vengaivayal village under Tamilnadu's pudukottai district boycotted pongal festival and hoisted black flags in their house to protest against the police for their refusal to arrest the reprobate who put faecal matter into the water tank of the colony.

Never Let Me Go

                                                          NEVER LET ME GO

                                                                                                - Kazuo Ishiguro

This is a plot which takes place in a dystopian-verse of late 1990's England. The world of "Never let me go" is scientifical advanced enough to built  human-clone in anticipation of prolonging human's life span. A clone is built using genetic information and raised in a special institution called Hailsham. As young adults, they start donating their vital organs. All donors receive organs from their designated 'carers'. This novel is narrated by a clone named Kathy. Her reminiscences of her childhood in hailsham and her friends Tommy and Ruth are the main plots of this novel. She recalls her complex relationship with each one and with the Hailsham. She often pauses to explain Hailsham rituals. Although the students learn vaguely about the donation program, their guardians shield them from a full understanding of their future. Miss Lucy, their guardian disagrees with this indirect approach. However, the students also generate their own forms of knowledge through rumor and speculation. They develop theories to help explain what the guardians will not discuss, although they can only test these theories indirectly. Although the younger students avoid discussing donations, Kathy and her classmates begin to joke about them as teenagers. In one running joke, students pretend to unzip themselves and hand over their organs. This may be said in a humorous way but the core point is very pathetic.

Kathy often plays her favorite track, “Never Let Me Go,” when she is alone in the dormitory. The refrain, “Baby, baby, never let me go,” makes her think the song is about a woman who miraculously has a baby after being told that she cannot have children. Kathy imagines the woman singing and holding her baby. The song conveys the woman’s happiness, but also her fear that the baby will be taken away. One day, Kathy is singing along to the song and swaying her pillow like a baby. When the song ends, she sees Madame watching her from the hallway. Madame is crying, and leaves abruptly because she knew the students could not have babies.

In my perspective the clones are created for a purpose to serve humans, overating their feelings is like downcasting for a server crash of an A.I. They are like meats that we grow for a purpose and harvest when we need.

Kite runner

                               Kite Runner

                                                             - khaled hosseini

This is a story about the ever lasting relationship between two boys and maturation of Amir, son of a headman, Baba in kabul - afghanistan . Hassan is half brother of Amir which is revealed later in the novel by Rahim Khan, who is a boon companion of Baba and a mentor of Amir. But Amir was told that hassan is son of ali, who works for Baba's family for ages.

Amir likes to write stories since his childhood. He reflects his darkest memories in his stories. He likes hassan and often plays with him but he is jealous about the relationship between hassan and his father, Baba. Amir and Hassan fly kites together and Hassan is always a good kite runner. Once Hassan ran to get the kite as trophy to Amir, he was caught by some bullies and sexually assaulted. He undergoes this pain just sake of giving that kite to Amir. Amir saw that agonizing thing from distant and ran away without even helping him. This terrible incident separated them.

Then Baba and Amir migrate to states because of the invasion of russians. There Baba works in a shop and made Amir to study medicine but Amir was more interested in writing. Then he got married to soraya, daughter of general sahib. But they weren't able to pass their generation. Then Baba grew old and passed away. Eventually Amir cames to know that Rahim on his last days, so he went to help him. In this point of the story rahim reveals the truth that Hassan was born to baba and ali's wife, Sanaubar. Then rahim says that Hassan and his wife were shot dead by talibans and  his son, sohrab is struggling in the orphanage of Kabul. Amir went to kabul to bring sohrab back with him. There sohrab was assaulted by the same guy who assaulted hassan. Amir went to that guy in order to rescue sohrab but there sohrab slingshots that guy and they both returned to states.

In the last scene of this story Amir and his adpoted son, sohrab flies kite. Then Amir ran to get the kite for sohrab.

In their childhood, Amir used to read stories with hassan. Even though Hassan couldn't read and write, he is matured and ingenious enough to tackle his life issues. He always wanted to hear to a story of Rostam and Sohrab. (In remembrance of his childhood he named his son sohrab).
Amir talks about his own story named tears into pearls, in which a man finds a magic cup which turns his tears into pearls so he kills his wife and crys out to become rich. Hassan replies that the man can even smelled an onion to cry.  This exemplifies the intelligence and ingenuity of hassan.
